People of Indian Origin and Non-Residential Indians
Common saying in India is that Indians are found in every part of world. There was constant influence of them on India and vice versa. Changing aspiration of India has bought a paradigm shift in former relation with it.
Earlier relation:
Previous relationship between India and immigrants and emigrants were economical in nature. Through remittance they infused money to their families. Besides they invested through foreign Investment methods. They were also precursors in bringing western and foreign culture leading to westernization of society.
Presently:
Increasingly they are now playing important role in building India as brand and in political fields.
i. They form strongest pressure group actively lobbying for needs of India. These are most predominating where they become larger ethnic group like US, UK and Canada.
ii. Many PIOs are part of foreign governments who act as bridge between their present home country and erstwhile home.
iii. New Canadian government had inducted four PIOs in ministerial posts and Obama administration uses them in many dealings in region.
iv. In building brand, it can seen from PM’s address in foreign nation had so far huge attraction changing perception of India in positive way in those countries and around the world.
v. Their economic reach has been widened and their role was increasingly excepted in programs like Make in India.
vi. Most PIOs are highly acclaimed in scientific and artistic field who may have to do pioneering role in India’s scientific growth.
CONCLUSION-
In order increase cooperation Indian side also initiated numerous benefits for them like merging PIOs and OICs to reduce hassle, providing visa free entry, increased benefits in investment, special scheme to attract them to do research and take sojourn in academic teaching in Indian institutions. Even government had announced to provide them with Aadhaar Card. Yearly Pravasi Bharitya Divas was also celebrated.
India needs to capitalise on its unique advantage in achieving its dream of World Power.
